2010s/Superheroes/Vandal Surfer

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK

Silver Surfer has a secret life nobody knows about. At nights he jets through city streets, leaving behind graffiti art in the most prominent spots that aren’t accessible to the bravest of urban artists, even to Mr. Soapski. This most wanted vandal had never been identified because of his hyper speed. With a can of spray in his hand he stands for his beliefs, a symbol of rebellion. Only Mr. Soapski is able to keep up, freezing time and speed in order to touch up the fellow street vandal’s board.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Superheroes take an important part in humanity’s collective consciousness. Their tales help children around the world learn and understand the eternal struggle between the good and the evil. But how well do we know them? Is there more to them than we know from the cinema screens? Mr. Soapski’s regular escapes to virtual worlds of his imagination have led to the formation of his own perspective on the characters. Over the years the artist had imagined a different, human side to them. A side unknown to hundreds of millions of superhero fans. In this series Mr. Soapski reveals this unique angle, deeply connected to his own feelings, influenced by his life’s experiences. Superheroes act as powerful symbols in our lifes’ journeys also as teenagers and adults - undeniably inspiring many of us to make better life choices when faced with difficult choices. Through bringing us his own interpretation, Mr. Soapski makes us question how well we know the superheroes, making us smile and nod our heads for indeed, there could be more to the superheroes than we thought we knew.

OBSERVATIONS

This piece features Mr. Soapski’s signature “Little Adam”, the avatar representing himself in his art. Here Little Adam is servicing the Surfer’s board, as if in Formula 1’s pit stop, with a can of spray, demonstrating the artist’s ability to transcend the virtual worlds and interact with their fantastic characters. Little Adam represents the importance of the connection with self, being a part of our life’s work, yet letting our creations outgrow us. Little Adam’s message is simple: love and value yourself, immerse yourself in work, stay humble, have fun.
