The Phantoms: Born from Shadows, Shaped by Freestyle

The Phantoms: Born from Shadows, Shaped by Freestyle - MR.SOAPSKI ART

Every piece of art begins in the dark, but the story of The Phantoms is a journey of pure creation with no roadmap. This series is an intense dive into dark surrealism and urban art, capturing a heavy, late-night atmosphere where mystery meets raw street energy.

The process behind these characters is entirely unique. It doesn't start with a digital sketch. It starts in the physical world—with different wrapped, twisted, and intensely highlighted fabrics. Capturing the way light hits those physical shapes forms the raw foundation.

From there, the real magic happens on the iPad inside Procreate. Using a pure freestyle approach, the shapes are manipulated, developed, and brought to life. There is no rigid plan from the start. Instead, the narrative and the character's history are built organically during the painting process, letting the artwork dictate what it wants to become in the final piece.

Because The Phantoms are created through this raw freestyle flow, each piece carries an unpredictable presence embedded in the heavy contrast and glowing details:

Windmill: A powerful figure representing a b-boy who embodies the element of wind. Inspired by the iconic breakdance move, the dynamic rotation of twisted forms and sharp light alignment capture that raw, spinning energy—literally creating a visual vortex on the paper.

The Thing: A dark, imposing character that evokes the eerie, organic mystery of The Swamp Thing. It emerges heavily from deep, bottomless shadows, defined by raw textures and unpredictable high-contrast highlights.

DRUG-ON-HEAD: A striking female presence—a b-girl whose head is crowned with intricately wrapped, chaotic layers of fabric that morph into the organic, aggressive shapes of dragons. The name itself carries a heavy double meaning, balancing the literal mythic beasts on her mind with the raw, addictive trance of the creative process.

Blizzart: A cold, atmospheric character representing an icy graffiti writer who embodies the dark, uncompromising side of graffiti culture. It cuts through the darkness like a frozen neon blast, capturing the gritty essence of midnight bombing, raw street textures, and pure dark surrealism.

From the Screen to Fine Art Quality

To keep the gritty, authentic feel of this creative process intact, translating it from digital brushstrokes to the physical world required the absolute highest standards. No cheap posters. No flat inks.

To preserve the depth of the bottomless blacks and the sharp intensity of the highlights extracted from those fabrics, each piece is available exclusively as a premium Giclée print on heavy, 100% cotton Hahnemühle William Turner paper. The unique texture ensures that when you look at Windmill or The Thing on your wall, you feel the same raw, tactile energy that went into creating them.

They aren't just prints; they are limited-edition windows into a dark, surreal underworld born from pure freestyle flow.
